How to Use Mucus Extractor on Children

A mucus extractor, also known as a balloon syringe, removes the nose of a child who cannot blow into tissue. Clean your child's nasal cavity with a cleaner one to make it easier for him to breathe when he is sick and to prevent runny nose from running out. Mucus extractors are inexpensive and are available in many baby products and pharmacies, making them an affordable and indispensable additional device in parents'medicine boxes.

Clear mucus

Place the baby on his back and tilt his head slightly upward. Squeeze the ball of the mucus extractor to expel air. Gently insert the tip of the nose into the baby's nostrils and release the light bulb. The resulting suction sucks the mucus from the baby's nose into the mucus extractor. The mucus is discharged into the tissues. Wipe the tip of the mucus extractor with a paper towel and repeat it if necessary. Clear the other nostril in the same way.

Clean

Clean the mucus extractor before and after use to prevent bacteria from entering the baby's nose. Fill a small container with warm water and soapy water and soak the mucus extractor for a few minutes. Squeeze the light bulb into the water and suck in some more water. Shake well and squeeze out the water. Repeat these steps with clean warm water. Hang up the mucus extractor and fall down. Dry before storage.

hints: Mucous extractor is usually safe, but it may cause harm if used improperly. Avoid inserting the tip of your nose too far into your baby's nostrils, which can cause inflammation and bleeding. According to the baby zone website, putting a mucus extractor in a quarter to a half inch of the baby's nose can do the job. In some cases, if you tilt the mucus remover slightly in the baby's nostril, the effect will be better. If mucus is difficult to remove, drop a few drops of saline into the baby's nostrils before using the mucus extractor. Most babies don't like to clean their noses, which often makes it difficult for them to use the mucus extractor safely. If this is the case, the Baby Center website recommends that you stop and try again later.

Oral extractor Some mucus extractors work by placing one tube in your child's nostril and another tube in your mouth and connecting them to a small container. When in use, the mucus is inhaled through the nasal catheter through a suction tube in the mouth. Some parents report that these products are more successful, but many are designed for one-time use, which makes them more expensive and wasteful.
