You can measure the severity of road rashes in terms of severity, just as you measure burns. The first grade road rash is characterized by redness of the skin and no treatment is needed. As a result of a second-class highway rash, the outer skin ruptures, but it can heal itself with the smallest scar. When the third grade road rash occurs, the skin completely falls off and the underlying tissue is displayed. Patients may need skin grafts to cure third-grade road rashes.
