Can a poor bottle of white wine cause food poisoning?

White wine is made from white grapes. It is a lighter wine with high acid content. White grapes are produced in many parts of the world. A poor bottle of white wine does not cause food poisoning. Bad white wine turns into vinegar. White wine has antimicrobial activity, killing most of the bacteria that can cause food poisoning.

Low-quality white wine during the whole wine-making process, winemakers pay special attention to avoid excessive oxygen. Oxygen deprives white and red wines of color, flavor and aroma. Too much oxygen will eventually turn your white wine into white vinegar. If a new bottle of white wine smells or tastes like vinegar, there will be problems in the brewing process. If you have a bottle of white wine that has been open for a long time, oxygen will turn the wine into vinegar. Food poisoning occurs when you eat a substance contaminated by bacteria, parasites or viruses. The common bacteria causing food poisoning are Staphylococcus or Escherichia coli, also known as Escherichia coli. You may have food poisoning caused by food that you have never cooked, improper food handling, contaminated water or food that has not been properly stored. Infants, the elderly and people with weak immune systems are more likely to suffer from food poisoning. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever and nausea.

Mark Daeschel, a microbiologist at Oregon State University, said that research showed that wine, especially white wine, has antimicrobial properties and can kill common bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella. A study published in the British Medical Journal in 1995 compared red wine, white wine and bismuth salicylate (Pepto Bismal) in common bacteria. Researchers found that undiluted wine and bismuth salicylate were equally effective in reducing live bacteria. Studies have shown that wine dilution is more effective than over-the-counter drugs in reducing the colonies of Escherichia coli, Salmonella and Shigella.
